Origin: Giganta, Huila, Colombia
Producers: Danillo Falla

This coffee is from producer Danillo Falla, whose farm is a member of the Coocentral cooperative in Huila. Coocentral is continuing their smallholder project with Nordic Approach to improve the livelihoods of the producers in the area while featuring smaller lots, and it's been fun to see the Coocentral coffees get more delicious year after year. The project helps pass on all sorts of resources to smaller farmers that aren't always available, things like health insurance and family educational support, and more coffee-specific items like direct premium payments for quality cherry and a fertilizer bonus program. We're happy to work with folks like Nordic Approach and Coocentral - and the coffees being this delicious makes it an easy choice!
We love these washed coffees from Huila - they’re almost always super sweet and clean with excellent cup clarity. This particular lot is a Caturra/Castillo mix, and we're getting some crisp apple flavors along with some berry sweetness and even a subtle minty note. We’re excited to introduce this one to the club, we think it'll be a popular choice!

High acidity, very sweet and citric-like sour and lemon flavor. I also got very subtle notes of crisp greens, like lemongrass or green onions.

This has all the positive features of washed coffee and is highly consistent. I've tried three quite different grind settings, and each has been distinct and pleasant. The mint note is the most intriguing thing from the notes, but I would have missed it if I weren't looking for it. It showed up as more of a mouthfeel when slurping, which is reminiscent of apple, too. There's quite a bit of acid, with balanced sweetness and not a lot of distinct fruitiness. That's emphasized at a finer grind, where it doesn't become bitter but does crowd out the more delicate flavors.

I’m used to fruitier coffee from MCC, so this cup was a bit of a surprise to me. Although still fruity, those flavors are not as forward as some of their other selections. I get the slight mint flavor, and a subtle earthiness as well. Overall, it’s a relatively astringent coffee too. Not my favorite from MCC, but still very good.

I enjoyed this. On the nose the crisp red apple simply leaps out, easily the dominant scent. I also got some baking spices (maybe cinnamonish?) and a bit of strawberry. I never got mint, however. It also has a pleasant, lightly creamy mouthfeel that makes for a smooth cup. Overall, this is very nice if not spectacular.

I deleted my initial rating after drinking this coffee for a week or so in favor of a higher rating. This coffee is not as fruity as I am used to, but after dialing my pour-over for this particular coffee (v60 25:425 205F ~3m brew time) it has grown on me in a huge way. Perfectly balanced flavor and quite enjoyable. Would definitely order this one again!
