Las Pirias Decaf
Chirinos, Peru
Variety: Caturra, Typica, Mundo Novo
Processing: Swiss Water Processed
Origin: Chirinos, Peru
Producers: Las Pirias Small-holders
Altitude: 1800m
This coffee was grown in and around the town of Las Pirias, in the northern district of Chirinos, Peru. There are about 30 families in the town that produce coffee on some scale, and they bring their harvests together to process. In Peru, most coffee is still processed by hand-crank-powered equipment, compared to electric or otherwise powered pulping equipment in other markets. After reaching the US - these beans were gently decaffeinated using the Swiss Water Process, which doesn't involve any harsh solvents that can alter the taste of the coffee. The result is a rich, full-bodied cup of coffee without any of the caffeine!
Flavor-wise, we love how smooth and bold Las Pirias Decaf can be. If you've ever had a weak-tasting cup of decaf, this is a great antidote. We picked up on delicious brown sugar and molasses notes that permeate the brew and make for a sweet, smooth cup with a surprisingly strong flavor. Oftentimes people think of decaf as an alternative to caffeinated coffee - but we think that's a bit unfair to coffees like Las Pirias Decaf that are delicious in their own right. These beans aren't just "good for a decaf" - we think they're great beans, full stop. Enjoy!

I brew this in both cold brew and pour over. I have to say, this is much better than expected. Perfectly sweet and crisp. No weird aftertaste. Perfect for sunny day for refreshing drinks. What a great find. Well done Moustache!

I don't drink a lot of decaf, but in the extreme seasons I like an afternoon or evening cuppa (cold brew for summer, nice & hot for winter). I enjoy this one.
