El Morito
Variety: Pache
Processing: Washed
Origin: Jalapa, Guatemala
Producers: Roberto Monterroso
Altitude: 1500-2100m
Roberto Monterroso's farm El Morito has been in operation since 1994, and in that time his production has scaled dramatically. Roberto is a true jack-of-all-trades in the specialty coffee world, growing all sorts of varietals from Geishas to Maragogype and experimenting with pretty much every conceivable processing method. His love of all things coffee has landed him several top 5 finishes in Guatemala's Cup of Excellence, which speaks to the expertise he brings to his crops. We loved this lot of washed Pache the minute we cupped it, and we think you'll notice its quality as soon as your first brew blooms.
We couldn't get enough of the strong vanilla aroma that El Morito exhibits at the outset, which carries over to become a defining characteristic of the cup. Also present is a light grape note that adds just enough tartness, and a smooth almond flavor that lingers delightfully even after you've finished your coffee. We love how mellow and refined this flavor profile is, and how consistently it delivers stellar tastes no matter what brewing method you use. We're looking forward to hearing your reactions, let us know how you like it by rating your coffee and drop us a line!

So good! Vanilla note is so delicious. Not too acidic or sweet. I can drink this everyday.

Initially beans had a lovely / heavy almond aroma but didn’t taste it as much - which I wished it did. Thinking the sweet/nutty flavor of the beans neutralized any acidity. Overall solid coffee that I feel I can drink any time of the day, all day long. Probably a great gift for friends/family when u don’t know their specific preference.

In general I like light coffees, but there is such a thing as too much of a good thing. This one is light and flavorful, but firm enough to have some bite to it it as well. Circumstances arranged to have a bit left in the fridge one day and it tastes lovely cold as well.

Tasting notes are not as vibrant as previous bags (we've been subscribers for 3 years). But it is still delicious and enjoyable! Every bag we have ever received has been incredible.

Not as unusual as the 'tobacco tones' in my previous coffee, but still a very good cup. Nice vanilla note, and very balanced. I love the diversity of the Moustache coffees.

For filter, it was a really balanced cup of coffee with sweetness, acidity and lingering sense of comfort. It deviated from my typical Kenya or Ethopia floral or fruit bomb style, but I enjoyed the coffee. I didn't get the opportunity to brew it up via filter methods because I really began to enjoy it as espresso once it was dialed in.
