This great cup of coffee was produced by Petronillo Martinez, his son Jesus, and their families. They live in the Hoja Blanca area of Huehuetenango, near the Mexican border - where their family has been growing coffee since 1958. They cheekily named their farm "the avocado plantation" because of the many avocado trees dotting the property - but their main focus has always been producing incredible lots of specialty coffee. Don Petronillo was the president of the Hoja Blanca Agricultural Cooperative for 5 years, and during that time greatly expanded the coffee production of the area. Now his large family is deeply engrained in the coffee-producing culture of the region, working together to produce many of the top-scoring lots coming out of the area each year.

We're digging the smooth, mellow flavors at play in this lot - which is a washed Pacamara. These big beans are packed with a juicy berry flavor, and some really rich cocoa and caramel notes. Our brews are coming out with a nice, viscous body and great clarity of flavor which makes the cup one to savor slowly. Many thanks to Don Petronillo and his family for putting in the work to create such great coffees - we're honored to be sharing them with members like you who will enjoy them they way they deserve to be enjoyed!

Pretty good

Solid, but a bit muted, especially for a Guatemalan. However, the texture of the coffee is nice and thick. Interestingly, these beans are larger than most. This coffe smells amazing as it's brewing, but the flavors don't match. I'm not getting caramel. Perhaps some milk chocolate with a slight acidic tinge.

Hey David, It's a Pacamara which is why the beans are so big. Have you tried playing round with your brew a little? Maybe increase the dose a little would be somewhere to start I think? Let me know how it goes.
