This incredible coffee comes to us from the La Coipa district in Cajamarca, Peru. The producers are all members of the Union y Fe cooperative, which was founded in 2014 with a clear mission to improve the livelihood and wellbeing of coffee producers. They do so by employing expert agronomists that provide guidance to coop members on agronomic best practices, pest control, soil analysis, fertilization, and harvesting. The agronomists have also begun to provide support for members' vegetable gardens and livestock projects, increasing food security for members and their communities. This particular micro-lot is named in the local indigenous language meaning "beautiful women" and is made up of coffees from 32 women in the coop. The idea of the Sumac Warmi micro-lot is to highlight the expertise of these women producers, and provide an opportunity for them to be rewarded for their premium quality coffees.
Sumac Warmi presents a richness of flavor that we think the club will love. We're picking up on a juicy red grape note that has a great balance of sweetness and acidity - backed by a formidable cocoa taste that compliments the heavier body of this brew. We're also getting a touch of warming spice in this cup - something akin to cinnamon - that could be really fun to draw out with different brewing methods. A smooth, rich coffee with bold flavors and a great backstory? It doesn't get much better than that!

Sumac Warmi has a comforting depth to it, rich and flavorful, reminiscent of dark cocoa. Balanced against this is a sweetness and piquancy that add complexity. There's a bit more acid and bitterness than some coffees, but all-told, a quality roast.

This coffee is my favorite yet from MCC! Perfect amounts of Acidity and Body help create a cup that is well rounded. Not too fruity, not too smoky. Just right.

Another quality shipment from Moustache. On my third pot this week and still liking the balance of this bean. I taste more cinnamon than I expected, don't mind at all-it's a welcome change from the other stuff my son has brought home from his job at our regional natural foods store. We have some good coffee around here but I have always found coffee from you to be a cut above the Portland coffee scene. To me, this coffee does not have the sweetness that I prefer but I still find it very enjoyable, especially since the weather has finally turned nice and I can sip outside first thing in the morning and watch the people go by while enjoying it.

Not sure if that's the right word. I just couldn't quite pull any particularly recognizable flavors out. Wasn't muddy or boring or weak, just didn't SHINE when brewed on my equipment.

This coffee has a low key spiciness that is balanced by a nice acidity. Really enjoy.
Glad you enjoyed! Sumac's been on heavy rotation in my kitchen - love that spice.

Seemed best in french press, but overall didn't pull out much flavors. Overall seemed to have a bit of a nutty taste and maybe a bit of cocoa notes.
