This coffee was grown in Mantiqueira de Minas - a mountainous region of the state of Minas Gerais in Brazil. The region is known locally for its abundant water resources and their therapeutic qualities, which means its a great place to farm healthy, high-quality coffee! Adriana de Barros Rodrigues in an agricultural engineer that moved to the Mantiqueira in 2008 to help the growers' association with development & technical projects. In 2015 she had the opportunity to buy a small piece of land in the area, which she now farms with her partner as members of the same Growers' Association she first came to work for! The farm produces mostly Bourbon coffee - though they have some Mundo Novo and Catigua varietals that they're experimenting with as well. Their small farm only produces about 150 bags of natural-processed coffee each year across all their lots - meaning we secured about 4% of their total coffee for the year!
And we're glad we did - this coffee is wonderful! Adriana does a lot of extra work to make sure her farm is set up to be as beneficial to the environment as possible, and the processing standards are extremely high - all of which leads to a coffee with stand-out flavor! This lot exhibits a lot of the sweetness and brightness that we've seen out of the recent Brazilian naturals - and a touch of tartness which lends the cup an edge. We're picking up on citrus-like acidity, alongside a juicy, white grape sweetness. When Sean cupped this coffee in Brazil - he actually wrote "grape juice?" on his cupping sheet - and we're glad to see the same strong flavors are carrying through today!

Definitely biased as one of the roasters, but I love this coffee! Just can't get enough of the sweet, bright, tropical flavors in this lot. :)

A little lime, a little sugar, and a backbone of roasty stonefruit (apricot/nectarine), Sao Francisco is a delicious, well-balanced roast. I'm loving this coffee.
