Gute Sodu
Guji, Ethiopia
Variety: Heirloom
Processing: Washed
Origin: Guji, Ethiopia
Producer: Eyasu Worasa
Altitude: 1900-2100m
This lot of washed Ethiopian heirloom beans comes to us from a SNAP coffee washing station near the town of Gute Sodu. The manager, Eyasu Worasa says that it's a great area for growing coffee, thanks to the dense natural forests that provide ample shade for the coffee plants growing below them. At the Gute Sodu washing station, coffee from local small-holder producers is brought together for sorting and processing. The beans are washed and then dried on raised beds for 10 days. During this time the coffees are turned by hand, which helps promote even drying and a more consistent moisture level throughout the coffee.
Brewing a cup of Gute Sodu is a sweet and smooth experience - one that's sure to delight coffee lovers of every stripe. We're picking up on rich chocolate notes, paired with that characteristic stonefruit note that's present in many Ethiopians. There's also a molasses-like sweetness, with a hint of spice that gives the brew a wonderful aftertaste that lingers on the palate. It's a lovely coffee, and one that we hope you take the time to enjoy this week!

Just underwhelmed. This lacks the brightness and floral and fruit notes that generally make MCC coffees to exciting to explore. Not that it's bad, it just isn't exciting.

The fruit notes are a bit darker, more like stone fruits. The acidity doesn't punch you right away, the molassesy sweetness lingers in a lovely way.

Not picking up as much rich chocolate but I am picking up a smooth tasting cup of coffee with a bit of sweetness at the end. Another Ethiopian winner.

I tend to like darker roasts but this was a great coffee. A bit too intense for me and had to dial back the grind quite a bit. Even then the fruit flavor really stands out. Some carmel notes in the beginning. A bit acidic, I think. I drink a lot of coffee and although try a lot of different roasts and coffees, not sure I know enough about coffee to comment on it too much. I do like it and it's definitely a great coffee.

Reminiscent of a Guatemalan coffee - smooth and rich with deeper chocolate and sweet caramel notes. Absolutely delectable coffee.

Love the flavor, just not quite as strong as I usually prefer. Nothing wrong with it at all, just not my favorite type.
